General Information: Red Sakura Shrimp is a breeding form of Red Fire Shrimp which has an intense coloration. Unlike the normal Red Fire shrimp, even the smaller males of the Red Sakura Shrimp are more intensely colored due to their strong pigment density. The young animals also develop their beautiful red color much earlier in comparison to other shrimps and can hardly be distinguished from their parents. The natural form of the Red Sakura shrimp originally comes from Asia and is especially suitable for beginners. Adult animals reach a size of 2-3 cm and can live up to 2 years. The animals we offer are exclusively German offspring (DNZ) from our aquariums, in which we increase the quality by constant selection.
Keeping: Red Sakura shrimp can be kept in aquariums with a tank volume of 10 liters. However, we recommend a volume of at least 25 liters, as these tanks run much more stable. In addition to that, a large tank is great for the Red Sakura shrimp, because this shrimp reproduces very strongly and you therefore need enough extra space for the offspring. You should also provide enough hiding places in your tank, so that the young shrimp can hide after hatching. In our store you will find various decorations and hiding places, such as roots, stones and plants, which should not be missing in any shrimp aquarium. Like all shrimp, Red Sakura shrimp feel more comfortable in groups of 10 or more animals. If you start with a larger aquarium with over 60 liters, we recommend starting with a group of 20 animals.
Reproduction: The Red Sakura shrimp belongs to the family of the Neocaridina shrimp, which has a specialized reproductive type. The reproduction is thus possible with little effort. After an egg-bearing period of approximately 3-4 week, the female releases about 30 fully developed, independently living young. Immediately after hatching, the young shrimp hide under roots or fine plants to protect themselves from predators. After a few days they leave their hiding places to start foraging for food in the tank. At the beginning you have to look very closely to recognize the offspring. All shrimp of the genus Neocaridina family can mate with each other. If you don’t want your offspring to lose color, you shouldn’t keep Red Sakura shrimp with the popular Yellow-Fire, White-Pearl or other shrimps of the Neocaridina family. Therefore, we recommend looking at our crossbreeding table.
Socialization: The Red Sakura shrimp is an extremely calm aquarium inhabitant and can also be socialized with small fish species. You can often find the Neo's with dwarf armored catfish or various Boraras in community aquariums. Please note, that this may result in the loss of offspring. Therefore, we suggest offering your shrimps sufficient hiding places such as plants, mosses or caves. The most suitable companions for the Red Sakura shrimp are small fish that mainly stay at the water
surface.
Food: The Red Sakura Shrimp is an omnivore and loves to graze surfaces for microorganisms. We recommend feeding them with our mulberry sticks to provide a varied diet. A sea almond leaf in the tank provides a permanent food source and a great place for shrimp and snails to hang out.
Substrate: for our Red Sakura Premium shrimp we recommend a dark substrate with a fine grain, on which your shrimp can search for food. With this substrate the intense colors of the Red Sakura can really shine.
Markus’ comment: The Red Sakura has a stronger color than the Red Fire shrimp and is therefore in high demand! Our Premium shrimp have a special dense red coloration.
