General Information: The Red Rili shrimp enchants every aquarium fan with its dazzling coloration! The Red Rili is easy to breed: Over many generations, the Red Rili shrimp was created by selection. Good to know: Red Rili shrimp are descendants from the so-called Red Cherry shrimp. As a recycler of plant remains, the Red Rili is not only beautiful to look at, but also a welcome helper in every aquarium! The animals we offer are exclusively German offspring (DNZ).
Keeping: Red Rili shrimp are ideal for aquascaping beginners, because the small shrimp are very easy to care for in comparison to other animals. Acidic to hard water is particularly suitable for Red Rili shrimp in their own aquarium! Red Rili Shrimp can be kept in aquariums with a min. of 10 liters. However, we recommend a volume of at least 25 liters. In addition to that, we recommend large tanks, which are more stable, for beginners. You should furthermore provide enough hiding places for your Red Rilis. Different roots, stones and especially mosses are suitable for this purpose. Java moss offers the offspring of Red Rili shrimp a retreat and a great source of nutrients in the first few days after birth. Due to the surface, many microorganisms form on the moss, which shrimp like to graze on. In our store we offer various decorations and hiding places for your shrimps. Please note: Shrimps feel especially comfortable in groups. Therefore, Red Rili shrimp should be kept in groups of 10 or more animals. In larger tanks you can also start with 20 or more animals.
Reproduction: The reproduction of Red Rili shrimp is very easy, because the Neocaridina shrimp are shrimp with a specialized reproductive type. After an eggbearing period of approximately 3-4 week, the female releases about 30 fully developed, independently living young. After hatching the baby shrimp quickly find a hiding place, where they retreat for the next few days. Moss is particularly suitable for this, because it offers many hiding places and a good nutrient supply.
By the way: All shrimps of the genus Neocaridina family can all mate with each other. For hobby breeders it is important to know that the offspring from these crossings often show strong color losses. We have therefore created a crossbreeding table for you, which you should definitely take a look at before breeding Red Rili shrimp!
Socialization: Neocaridina shrimps are extremely calm animals and can be kept together with small fish species, like to gold ring goby, in the aquarium. Please note, that this may result in the loss of offspring. The most suitable companions for the Red Rili shrimp are small fish that mainly stay at the water surface.
Food: The Neocaridina shrimps are omnivores! The shrimp look for food all day long and graze the surface in the aquarium. Ideally you should feed your shrimps regularly in a feeding corner and feeding tube with a natural supplementary food. For this purpose, our food sticks made of various ingredients are ideal. We also recommend adding a sea almond leaf to your aquarium. In the next few days, you can watch your shrimps and microorganisms slowly decompose the leaf and snack on it.
Substrate: We recommend a dark substrate with a fine grain size to emphasize the colors of the Red Rili.
Markus' comment: The Red Rili shrimp is a particularly beautiful variety of the Red Cherry shrimp and a great alternative for beginners.
