Süßwassertang - Lomariopsis lineata

The freshwater kelp (Lomariopsis lineata) is a green pre-stage of the fern. The up to 2 cm large shoots grow into each other and form a dense ball. Originally, the freshwater kelp comes from Asia where it can be found in streams and slow-flowing rivers.

Freshwater kelp is often used in aquaristics by beginners and shrimp keepers, as it doesn’t have high demands regarding light and fertilization. It grows in all directions and spreads slowly. If you like you can tie the plant on stones or roots with some yarn. You can position it anywhere in the tank or between your hardscape. The freshwater kelp is best cut with one of our sharp aquascapping scissors made of stainless steel.

Freshwater kelp is especially popular among shrimp keepers because of its large surface area on which numerous microorganisms can settle. These microorganisms are a great food source for all shrimp and especially popular with young shrimp. The small shrimp can furthermore seek shelter among the shoots after hatching or molting and can spend some time hiding in it as well.

This freshwater kelp comes from our breeding tanks and may contain small snails. We remove them as good as possible before shipping. The plants are free of planaria or other harmful parasites that could cause damage to your aquarium. In our tanks the freshwater kelp grows in moderate lighting and without the addition of CO2 and fertilizer.
