The Flame moss (Taxiphyllum sp. Flame) got its catchy name for an obvious reason. Unlike most other mosses, flame moss doesn’t spread sideways too quickly. Instead, flame moss grows upward in flame-like shoots.
Originally this moss comes from Asia and grows there in streams and lakes under water (submersed). In shallow places with protruding stones or branches this moss also grows above the water surface (emers).
This visually appealing moss can be maintained without a great deal of time and is content with little light. An addition of micro and macro nutrients, as well as CO2 accelerates growth, resulting in strong colors and vigorous shoots. Flame moss looks especially beautiful when it is allowed to grow attached to stones or roots. Due to its adhesive roots, it grows firmly in a short period of time and holds on tight. A real Must have for aquascapers and shrimp lovers.
For shrimp and young fish, this moss is an important refuge in the first few days after birth. To protect themself from predators, flame moss offers many small open spaces to linger and consume food. Due to its large surface area, a particularly large number of microorganisms can form and contribute to stable conditions in the aquarium. One can also often observe fish plucking at the shoots of the moss in search of food.
