Coral moss (Riccardia chamedryfolia) is a very beautiful, dark green moss, which originates from the tropics. It is estimated that there are about 100 different species, whereas only three types are represented in aquaristics.
Coral moss is characterized by its slow and cushion-shaped growth. This moss is especially beautiful when it can grow attached to stones or roots. Due to its broad growth, it is also very popular as a ground cover. This moss is quite undemanding and is already satisfied with little light influence. It thrives under strong fertilization with micro- and macronutrients, as well as CO2. This moss also doesn’t have high demands when it comes to water values. With a PH-value between 6 and 8 and a temperature between 20° and 30°C the coral moss usually grows without problems.
As with other mosses, many microorganisms form on the surface of coral moss. These are a great food source for shrimps! Dwarf shrimps are especially comfortable in dense coral moss: The coral moss offers a great retreat for aquarium inhabitants.
It is best to tie the coral moss on stones or other things with thread. We recommend using stainless steel mesh or a fine net. Cut off shoots can be tied up again at any time to create your own personal aquascape.
