Staurogyne repens - InVitro

Staurogyne repens originates from Brazil, the plant can reach a size of up to 5-10 cm. With its green, bushy growth, it is particularly suitable for nano aquariums and the foreground of larger aquariums. Its natural habitat is in Rio Cristalino, where it grows in large carpets near riverside areas.

Among aquascapers this plant is very well known and has been popular for a long time because of how it grows and its easy care. The approximately 2 cm long and maximum 8 mm wide leaves grow close to the stem and have a slightly wavy structure. After cutting back the foreground plant multiple times, the Staurogyne will spread out sidewards and can be used as a ground cover.

Before planting the Staurogyne repens, remove the leaves at the bottom and insert the stem deep into the soil to prevent it from sprouting. To set the shoots tightly in the aquarium, it is best to use our special plant tweezers (LINK) which are made of stainless steel. After about one week the Staurogyne forms roots and grows firmly.
Ideally, we recommend using Soil to supply this plant with the perfect amount of nutrients. With good lighting, some CO2, as well as a supply of and macronutrients, this plant will quickly feel at home and shine in all its glory.

Should you ever need to cut the staurogyne, use sharp aquascaping scissors with a curved blade. Cut the plant close to the ground to promote even denser growth. After just a few days you will see the new shoots and the plant will soon grow back even fuller.

Our tip: With plenty of light and nutrients, the staurogyne will turn reddish in the center of its leaves. You can use this plant for adding special accents to your aquarium.
